You Need to Drink More Water
By Virginia Laird
You may be shocked at exactly how few people drink enough water to stay properly hydrated. Odds are you may even be one of the thousands and do not realize it. Health and wellness professionals advise that very few people know how much they should be drinking. It is recommended that you should drink at least half of your body weight in ounces daily. Let that soak in; this can exceed the previous recommendation of eight glasses per day. So, where do you fall? Are you drinking enough? Making sure to drink enough water is vital in keeping your body healthy. A few reasons you need to begin making water a priority include:
- Water helps maintain the function of the body
- Staying hydrated helps the immune system
- Water can help control weight
- Water over soda allows the body to absorb the nutrients from food
Water Helps Maintain the Function of the Body
Water is vital in maintaining functions of the organs, digestive system, and other aspects of your health. It is no secret that sodas and juices are full of sugar. Increasingly, sugar has become a major underlying issue affecting the health of adults and children. More and more are struggling with diabetes caused from too much sugar in the diet wreaking havoc with the kidneys, pancreas, and liver.
Staying Hydrated Helps the Immune System
Because water is paramount in maintaining function of the systems of the body, it remains true for the immune system. When you are properly hydrated, your body can better fight off illnesses. This time of year, the flu is proving to be difficult to avoid. While there are no sure ways to do so, staying hydrated can help keep fevers down as well as fight off the infection.
Water Can Help Control Weight
Water is one of the best ways to prevent weight gain. Because it is a zero calorie beverage, it can be used as a filler to help curb the amount of food you eat during each meal. Many health and wellness professionals suggest drinking one cup of water before each meal can help you keep your food consumption to a normal amount, rather than one which allows overeating.
Water Over Soda Allows the Body to Absorb Nutrients from Food
The body needs nutrients to function properly. Many people do not realize that eating meals with a soda can prevent the body from being able to properly absorb the nutrients needed to stay healthy. Water, although vital to the health of the body, does not hamper the body’s ability to absorb necessary nutrition, rather it helps encourage it.
Now that you have the facts about water, hopefully you are ready to commit to a lifetime of proper hydration and water consumption.
