Blood Pressure Worries? Try Managing Naturally

By Tom Herrin

A lot of people today have concerns about blood pressure.  It may be for good reason.  While some have genetic tendencies toward high blood pressure, many have it as a result of poor choices in lifestyles.  This can involve both activity and eating habits.  When these individuals find that they may be prone to high blood pressure, it is often recommended that they make some changes in the way they live.  It is unfortunate that many of us would rather take the easy route and end up on medication.  Too much medication is a risk of being harmful.  With a little commitment, it may be possible for anyone with such problems to make minor changes to address it.

Get a Bit More Exercise

Even though most people know they should get exercise, many fail to make it a priority.  The slightest of exercise can be a start.  The idea is that anyone has to begin somewhere.  Trying to bite off the whole thing at one time can be counterproductive.  Beginning with a short walk and building up a little at a time may bring some results.  Any activity is going to do more good than none.  It may be surprising how a small bit of exercise can get the heart going.  After some progress, there is a fair likelihood that blood pressure may improve.  It is recommended that people shoot for 30 minutes per day.

Make a Plan to Stop Smoking

For those who are smokers, it is hard on blood pressure.  It is obviously difficult to stop smoking as well.  When it comes down to decisions about health, it may be time to balance habits against what is actually best for the body.  Smoking will very possibly shorten life for most people who do it.  It may be something to consider making a plan for quitting.  What is there to lose?  If it is successful, blood pressure may be lowered, and there may be less chance of developing respiratory problems.

Become More Aware

Each of us can probably do a better job of keeping tabs on what we are doing.  The best way to keep track of blood pressure is to check it regularly.  Checking it at various times throughout the day may help also.  Blood pressure monitors for use at home are pretty inexpensive and very easy to use.  We always have one at our home and use it often.  Anytime I feel that mine is a little out of range, I am able to make some minor adjustments and get it back to where I need it.
