By Genevieve Cunningham
If you're going to get fit, why not get the whole family involved? Sometimes fitness takes a lot of work. It takes time and energy and planning. But if you're going to do these things for yourself anyway, then there's no reason to leave out the rest of your loved ones. But what can you do to get everyone interested and involved in fitness? If you would like to make a change in your family's life, take a look at these three fun family workouts to incorporate into your regular routine today.
Who doesn't love a day in the swimming pool? Adults and kids alike love to go swimming. And it just so happens that swimming is an incredible workout. It works your cardio as well as strengthen your muscles. If you have a local indoor pool, take advantage of it all year long. If not, wait for the warm months to arrive and then take your entire family swimming for a ton of fun and a great workout to boot.
Hiking is a great family activity and it's a great workout as well. Find a local trail, perhaps at a park or nearby campground, and go walking on the hiking trail. This is excellent cardio, and if the trail is challenging, it can also help to build strong muscles. If you have small children, take an easier route. If your family is a bit older, try the more challenging route. Make sure to take a camera because this workout is sure to provide lots of memories as well as a significant boost in the health of everyone involved.
When is the last time that you took a ride on a bike? For most people, it's been a while. If you want to get your whole family fit, buy some bicycles and go for a ride. This especially works the legs and improves cardio. The great thing about cycling is that it is a ton of fun. You'll ride for hours before ever really feeling the burn, which means massive calories burned and stretching and strengthening of the muscles like never before.
It’s entirely possible to get your family fit. The key is to get them interested, and the only way to get them interested is to engage them in fun and active activities. Use these as a jumping off point, and you’ll have the healthiest, most active family around before you know it.
