Seek Rewarding Exercises You Will Enjoy

By Tom Herrin

Even though most of us know very well that we should get some kind of exercise each day, many of us still fail to do so.  Some of it is simply because we can't make ourselves turn off the television and get off of the sofa.  For others, it may be because all of the exercise programs they have tried are too monotonous.  As with anything else, if we are not motivated, it is hard to make ourselves do something.  A real key to enjoying better health may be in finding activities that are a little different and higher interest.

Are You a Hitter?

In the past, many of us played baseball or softball.  Hitting was both fun and frustrating.  The development of batting cages made it a bit easier to get in some work.  Even if you no longer play the sport, you may enjoy going to a batting cage.  It can be fun and a decent workout.  While it won't bring big results, it will get you moving and improve hand-eye coordination.  You may be able to adjust the level of challenge as well.  It is also something you may be able to do with a group if you prefer.

Power Walking Can Be Time-Efficient

You may have tried casual walking, and it can be good.  Power walking allows you to step it up a couple of notches.  You can work on your endurance and cardio.  It does not have as much impact as running, but it may help to work leg muscles.  It can be easily done on a local trail or track, and some communities have groups that may be able to provide support and encouragement.  It won't take up that much of your time, and you will likely feel energized after doing it.

Dancing Can Be Contagious

If you are a dancer, you already know how much fun it can be.  If you have never really gotten into it, it can be a pleasant surprise.  There are all kinds of classes offered for beginners.  It won't take very long until you realize how much of a workout you can get from dancing.  The mere fact that you are on your feet and moving for 30 minutes or an hour can do a lot.  It is also something you may be able to do at home.  Dancing to a couple of numbers for even a short period of time can make you feel great.
