Fuel Your Body With These Foods Every Day
By Genevieve Cunningham
Fueling your body well is such an important task. Most of us give it very little thought. If the food looks good, we eat it despite the ingredients. But by taking this approach, many of us are overeating the wrong foods and under-eating all the good stuff. And it's definitely showing up in our bodies and health. Luckily, it's not hard to make change in this area of our lives. If you're ready to fuel your body better every day, take a look at these foods to regularly add to the menu.
Leafy greens are one of the best foods for your body. If you choose a darker variety -- something like kale or spinach -- then you're fueling your body with high amounts of Vitamin C, a touch of protein, and plenty of fiber. And because most leafy greens are so low in calories, you can eat quite a bit without consequence. Add some to your morning smoothie or put leafy greens in a midday salad to make the process easy and delicious.
Protein comes in many different forms. Most people get it through the consumption of meat products, whether that's a red meat, pork, chicken, or fish. If you're not a fan of meat, you can also get protein through nuts, beans, lentils, and a few vegetables. But no matter where you get your protein, it's something that should be in your diet every single day. Protein feeds the muscles, keeps the stomach full, and is essential for proper growth and efficient functioning. Plan on protein with meals or snacks (or both!) to make sure you get enough.
It's not a food, but it's still one of the most essential parts of your daily diet. When some people set out to drink more water, they quickly realize that they regularly drink very little. And some even discover that they don't drink a single glass all day long! They drink liquid -- tea, soda, coffee, juice -- but don't ever drink actual water. Proper hydration is important for appearance, function, and the way that you feel. Making this one change will be one of the best things that you can do for your body and health combined.
We don't often think of food as fuel. We think of it as a delicious flavor, as something to do, as entertainment. But the real reason we eat is to fuel our bodies! Add these foods to your diet every day, and you may be able to improve your health with very little effort at all.
