Pre- and Post-Adjustment Habits for Chiropractic Care
By Brandi Goodman
Chiropractic care should be part of your healthcare routine. However, many people who have not yet started the process, or have perhaps gone a time or two, are unsure of the right protocol for pre- and post-adjustment. There are certain habits you should form before and after you receive chiropractic care to help make the most of it.
Pre-Adjustment Habits
Before you head into the chiropractor, you want to help your body be as prepared as possible. First, wear the right clothes. Tight clothing will not allow you to be moved and manipulated as needed for a full adjustment. Loose clothing could also get in the way. Avoid wearing jewelry, watches, or accessories. Choose a regular T-shirt, athletic pants, and tennis shoes. Being comfortable without wearing clothes that are baggy is the goal.
You also want to be sure to drink plenty of water. The more hydrated the joints are, the better chance your chiropractor has at adjusting any restrictions present. A light meal high in protein is also ideal as protein can help the body recover quicker.
Loosening up the body with some light stretching or a quick walk around the block can also prove helpful. This will also release endorphins that can make you feel happy and relaxed. A relaxed state of mind is ideal when coming in for an adjustment so you're less likely to tense up and feel nervous.
Post-Adjustment Habits
After the adjustment is over, you shouldn't go back to your same routine and habits. Instead, you need to adopt new, healthier habits that will help you make the most of the care you just received. Drink plenty of water in the hours after leaving your chiropractor so your joints can stay flexible and well.
It is also best to follow the doctor's recommendations. If he or she offers you illustrations depicting a few stretches or exercises that can help with your particular pain areas, then try these moves. Do not let it sit and the information go to waste. They've offered this for a reason: because it can provide major benefit to your life.
