4 Seasons' Worth of Chiropractic Advice
By Brandi Goodman
Though the general recommendations by all chiropractors involve improving your habits, the season you're in changes that advice some. Yes, you still need to eat nutritious foods, exercise, and keep your posture intact for optimal joint health. You'll have some specific guidance on how to do all that, though, depending on the time of year.
Winter
The cold weather impacts your joints more than you may realize. It can cause inflammation and pain just because of the pressure in the air. You need to keep yourself warm and ensure you layer your clothing well if you'll be outdoors. The winter also brings with it a greater chance for injury. Snow and ice on the ground can make it easy to slip. This is an imperative time to wear the right footwear and keep your balance.
Spring
The weather starts to perk back up in the springtime. It may be tempting to head right outside and join back in on your favorite activities. You'll need some warming up and preparedness, though. Don't jump right back into gardening, for example, without stretching out your muscles and completing the work in short intervals.
Summer
The summer season is when most people are consistently spending time outside and engaging in lots of physical activity. Be sure you're stretching before you join in on that volleyball game or getting on your bike. You should also be staying particularly hydrated as the summer heat beats down and causes you to sweat more often than usual.
Fall
The challenge of fall weather comes from the constant rain that leaves things wet and slippery and the falling leaves that need raking. You need to be sure you're using the proper footwear and proper motions when attempting to tackle fall yard work. Get a rake that's easy to handle and make sure you're switching back and forth between hands so you don't overexert one side of your body. You may get sick more quickly when this time of year begins, so be sure you're keeping your immune system up. Take Vitamin C, eat nutritious foods, and wash your hands frequently.
Each season brings it with some differing advice. You should follow your chiropractor's orders no matter the time of year, however. Visit The Joint Chiropractic for an adjustment and further guidance on how best to maintain your well-being no matter the season.
