Chiropractic Advice for Chore Troubles

By Brandi Goodman

Chores around your home and yard can lead to days or more of back pain if you aren't careful. With the big spring cleaning session that many people partake in coming soon, it's wise to start considering just how to keep your back safe in the process. With some chiropractic advice for chore troubles, you can get through spring cleaning, or tackling household duties any time of year, much easier.

Lunge While Vacuuming

Too many people hunch over their vacuums, hurting their backs in the process. You should maintain your posture and stay in an upright position. To move with the vacuum easily as you do this, you should perform lunges. Move just one leg forward as you step into the next space to clean.

Buy a Rolling Laundry Cart

Lugging a full basket of laundry from one room to the next isn't ideal. You're putting a lot of extra weight into the mix that can lead to detrimental results if you aren't careful. A rolling laundry cart helps you avoid having to carry large loads. You can simply wheel it into the next room over without overexerting yourself.

Rest One Foot Inside a Cabinet During Dishes

Standing in place on both feet while you do dishes for 20 minutes or more is bound to lead to pain in your lower body. Instead, open up your cabinet beneath the sink and rest one foot inside for a few minutes. Then, alternate to the other foot. Doing this helps alleviate some of the tension and puts you closer to the counter so you have something stable helping to hold you up.

Break Up Your Tasks

If you plan on tackling a ton of chores, make sure you're breaking them up and giving yourself breaks in-between. You don't want to push yourself to get your entire house clean in one day, plus yard work on top of it. Spend several days getting little tasks done here and there so you're less likely to suffer from all the work you're putting your body through.

Stay Hydrated

Keep a bottle of water with you while you work. Staying hydrated is always necessary, no matter what type of activity you're doing. If you overexert yourself and push your joints to their limits with no water in sight to help them, then you could end up in some serious pain. Hydration helps with joint movement and betters their abilities.

Safety should always come first, no matter if you're just at home doing simple chores. Even a minor incident can lead to a major catastrophe, especially when it comes to your spine. If you still experience any discomfort in your back or otherwise, be sure to stop in at The Joint for an assessment.
