Want More Energy? Eat the Right Foods!

By Donna Stark

Have you been feeling more fatigued than usual? Do those afternoon slumps of yours wreak havoc on your days? If you want to feel more energetic but aren't sure how to get there, you've come to the right place! Your local chiropractors at The Joint Chiropractic want to talk about the foods you eat and how they can impact the way you feel. From the foods that energize your body to those that slow you down, they will cover it all. Take a look.

Energy-Producing Foods

We all know that food is important to keep our bodies healthy and strong; however, that doesn't mean just any type of food. Food is not created equal, so it's important to choose the right kind for your meals. What is the right kind? Well, you want to make sure you choose nutrient-dense foods that will give your body plenty of natural energy. Take a look at the examples below.

Fruit and vegetables - Fruits are a great source of fiber and antioxidants, and vegetables are rich in vitamins and minerals. Give your body what it needs by filling your cart with plenty of berries, apples, pears, and citrus, as well as dark leafy greens, broccoli, zucchini, tomatoes, peppers, and eggplant.

Healthy fats - There's healthy fat? You bet there is! Choose from avocados, olive oil, nuts, and seeds to get as many omega-3 fatty acids as you can.

Protein - Fill your belly with high-quality protein! Head to your local farmers market for some pasture-raised eggs, wild-caught salmon, grass-fed beef, and organic chicken.

Complex carbohydrates - Not all carbohydrates are bad. Sweet potatoes, carrots, beets, and brown rice are a must on your shopping list!

Water - It may not always be your beverage of choice, but it should be! Staying hydrated adequately is one of the best ways to improve your energy. Try to drink the recommended amount of water every day.

Energy-Draining Foods

Just as there are many food options to choose from that restore your energy, there are just as many that deplete it. Foods that are highly processed and contain added sugars, inflammatory oils, and other artificial ingredients will most certainly drain the life out of you. On top of that, they are known to affect hormones which can lead to sleep deprivation and unpleasant mood swings. It is vital to reduce the number of times you eat these foods, and if you do eat them, to eat in moderation. A few nacho chips are OK, but a bucket full of them is not.

Start Feeling Energized

You will immediately notice a difference in how you feel once you begin to eliminate the not-so-healthy foods and start to eat more energy-producing foods, so don't put it off any longer! Take a look at your diet today and make the necessary changes, so you can feel better than ever before.
