Strange Signs of Major Health Issues
By Sara Butler
Your body isn’t the mysterious thing you may believe it to be. In fact, it’s pretty easy to read if you know what to look for! Your body is constantly sending signals to let you know what is going on beneath the surface. The changes in your body may be a sign of something very serious occurring, which is why it’s important to pay attention and seek medical help when you know something just isn’t right. Here are a few strange signs of serious health problems you need to be on the lookout for.
A Smooth Tongue
Most people have a rough tongue with tiny taste buds everywhere. But a swollen tongue will appear smooth and free of the little cracks, creases, and crevices found on a normal tongue. A smooth tongue is often a sign of a Vitamin B12 deficiency or an iron deficiency.
The condition is technically called glossitis and can also be an indication of low estrogen levels – or it could be genetic. If you notice this condition and it lasts longer than 10 days, then you need to get it checked out by a medical professional to see just what is going on. If you’re having trouble breathing, eating, or speaking because of it, get help as soon as you can.
Bumps on the Eyelids
Yellowish bumps around the eyes or on the eyelids may be a sign of high cholesterol – really high cholesterol. This condition is called xanthelasma and it occurs when fat deposits build up under the skin. It’s always something that needs to be checked out by your eye doctor or regular doctor!
Sweaty Feet
Feet that are excessively sweaty may be caused by a condition such as hyperthyroidism. Or it could be an inherited genetic issue. If no one in your family has really sweaty feet and it’s something you’ve noticed occurring recently, then it’s best to get it checked out – it might be a sign of something more serious than hot shoes!
Earlobe Crease
If your earlobe has a diagonal crease, then you might want to pay attention! Research has found an association between this fold and a higher risk of heart disease. In fact, it may be a sign of a blockage in the arteries. So, make sure you get your heart checked and regular physicals if this sounds familiar.
Your body may be trying to tell you something. Are you listening?
