Introducing the Fruits of Fall!

By Donna Stark

One of the most enjoyable aspects of summer is the abundance of fresh produce you can find, but as the temperatures begin to drop, you may notice a huge change in what is available at your local grocery store or farmers market. From bright colors to deep hues, there is a lot to look forward to as some of the best fruits of the season make their appearance. And while you may be able to buy them throughout the year, fall is the time when their flavors are at their highest peak. Let's take a look at the stars of the season.

Apples

If you tried a new variety of apples every week of the fall season, you still may not get through them all. Apples are one of the most popular fruits of all but it's their versatility that makes them so special. They can be enjoyed on their own, baked into sweet treats, added into savory meals, or squeezed into delicious beverages. With all the ways you can enjoy an apple, it's easy to see why they are a favorite!

Cranberries

These little, red jewels aren't only good for a Thanksgiving side dish or for stringing and decorating a tree, they can be enjoyed in many other ways too! And the good news is that their season begins in just a couple of weeks! Use them in baked goods, add them to your wild rice dishes, or blend them up and create some fabulous tasting beverages!

Pumpkin

Nothing gets us more excited for fall than the appearance of pumpkins in our local stores. You can use pumpkins to make pies, muffins, and scones. You can puree them to make butters and spreads. You can even roast them and serve with your savory meals. But the best part (or least favorite, depending on what side you are on) are the hot pumpkin-spiced coffees you can get! Is your mouth watering yet?

Pears

Another fruit that is a favorite for many is the sweet, yet humble, pear. They may lack bright colors, but they make up for it with incredible flavor. Pears are the perfect accompaniment to your fall salads and baked goods but they don't need the extra ingredients to shine. They are also the perfect snack to eat on their own!

Fall Fruits Are the Best!

Whether you want to stick with what you know or try something new, you can't go wrong with the flavors of fall. So, the next time you are at the market, grab some of these fall fruits and bring them home for all to enjoy!
