How to Have a Long, Healthy Life
By Sara Butler
Longevity is a topic that weighs more heavily on your mind the older you get. Of course, you want to live the longest life you possibly can. But you also want to live the healthiest life you can too. At The Joint Chiropractic, we believe in helping people to live long and prosper. Here are some tips that can help you achieve that goal!
The Food You Choose
The old adage that you are what you eat has been around for a long time, probably because it’s true! What you put into your body each day really does have a huge impact on your health and longevity. Of course, you hear people say that their great-aunt ate pork rinds every day for 50 years and washed them down with a gallon of gin but still lived to be 98. That’s certainly not normal.
Cancer and diabetes are two chronic diseases that are quite prevalent in the United States today. You simply have to be conscious of what you eat and drink in order to escape a chronic disease fate. Avoiding packaged, processed foods is a great start, as is paying attention to how much excess sugar you get each day. Drink lots of water and eat a variety of fresh vegetables and fruits, lean protein, and whole grains. That’s one way to support your health in the long run.
How You Care for Yourself
Your diet will care for your body from the inside out, but it won’t help you to build muscle and keep your lungs and heart strong, nor will it keep tendons and ligaments flexible and your joints properly supported. Move your body every day, or for about 150 minutes each week, and see your chiropractor for regular chiropractic adjustments to keep your physical self in check.
A Few More Tips
An aspect of health and longevity a lot of people overlook is their social health. It’s important to maintain connections with people and deal with your emotions in a healthy way. Take care of your teeth, respect the environment, and get some sunshine (while remembering the sunblock!) in order to live your best life. And don’t forget to laugh -- because sometimes laughter really is the best medicine.
Living a long, healthy life is a great goal. Make it a reality with these tips!
