Three Reasons You Might Need to See a Chiropractor

By Lexi Herrin

There are a lot of different reasons that people might need chiropractic care. Some might receive it for preventative reasons, or as a form of treatment. Either way, chiropractic care can be very beneficial. It can help relieve pain, help reduce symptoms of some chronic illnesses, and it can even help reduce the reliance that you might have on pain relievers. Chiropractic treatment can help in a variety of ways. It can even help with many things that you might not even expect.

It May Help Relieve Pain

Chiropractic care can help relieve several types of pain, some of those being neck pain and back pain. Neck pain is a very common problem in several people especially if you sit for several hours a day. Chiropractic care may help with that by realigning your spine and relieving tension in your neck muscles. Back pain is also a fairly common occurrence and chiropractic care can be a good alternative to injections or surgery for treating short-term or even chronic back pain. It is recommended by the American College of Physicians that doctors encourage people with chronic back pain to seek non-medication treatments to treat pain before turning to medication.

It Can Reduce Symptoms of Some Chronic Illnesses

Chiropractic care may also help reduce the symptoms of chronic illnesses or diseases, most notably osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis pain is caused by degeneration of cartilage at the joint causing your bones to rub together. There is not much evidence supporting this theory, however, some studies show that it may help slow down the progression of arthritis by improving the cartilage, bone, and joint.

It Can Help Reduce Reliance to Pain Relievers

Chiropractic care can also help reduce reliance on opioid pain relievers. Opioid pain relievers are often prescribed to those who suffer from chronic pain, however, receiving chiropractic treatment may reduce the need to take the pain relievers at all. In a recent study, they compared the number of opioid prescriptions filled for those who did and did not receive chiropractic treatment. The study found that those who received chiropractic treatment were less likely to get their opioid prescription filled compared to those who didn't.
