Simple Ways to Put a Positive Spin on Life
By Sandy Schroeder
As the holidays spin forward, it is easy to become discouraged. Too many demands at home or work can create a challenging spiral that makes it tough to stay positive all of the time.
DumbLittleMan.com tells us to pause a minute and regroup to rescue our positive view. Here are some tips to try.
Cut Yourself a Big Break
If you are like me, you carry around a lot of guilt when things get tangled up at work or at home. No matter how hard we try there are going to be a certain amount of glitches. Just go with the flow and try not to stress too much. Try to step back to see the big picture. Forgive yourself for mistakes and move on. That's where all of the good stuff is waiting.
Confide in a Close Friend
If negative thoughts keep clouding your mornings and your afternoons, it might be time to talk it through with a close friend. Meet for coffee or lunch and spend some time talking about your problems. A good friend will listen and let you vent. Often they will have stories of their own and suggestions to help, but just releasing all of those negatives can be a relief.
Don't Miss the Blessings You Have
As we look around the globe we might want to say an extra thank you for our blessings this Thanksgiving. Suddenly our issues may not seem quite so large when we think of the issues others face every day.
Operate in the Present
Start fresh every day and make it a point to live in the moment. Clinging to the past or worrying about the future can sabotage all of the good things that you have right now. Share a laugh with a friend. Put together an outing with your kids. Spend some time brainstorming a new project. Then pause for a moment to realize just how good things are.
Create a Treasure Trove of Memories
Most of us have treasured keepsakes that remind us of special people and special times. Gather some of these keepsakes together in a memory box. Whenever your day lags and your spirits sag, open your memory box and refresh your spirit with some wonderful memories.
Get Ready to Move Forward
We all feel more positive when we plan future things for our kids, ourselves and our friends. Before we know it, our negatives have dropped way back and we really are eager to move ahead.
