Following a Family Fitness Plan
By Brandi Goodman
The whole family needs exercise to be healthy. Though it's fine for everyone to choose a workout they enjoy on their own, it's also beneficial to try physical activity together as a family. It promotes bonding while also encouraging every member of the family to get and stay fit. A family fitness plan for all can be extremely helpful.
Allow Each Member to Add an Activity
Start by asking for everyone's input. Each member of the family should get to add an activity they enjoy to the family fitness plan. Once you know everyone's interests, you can create a plan for the whole family to follow together. You might have your activity on Monday, your significant other's option on Tuesday, and each of the kids' choices to follow in the days after. Everyone will be more likely to participate in the things they may not like as much because they know their choice is coming.
Switch Things Up
It might feel fine to follow the same exact plan for a few weeks, but after a while it will get tiresome. You want to switch things up and have several options you can change out. This might mean switching the days you do certain things, or trying something new altogether. Perhaps you've been bike riding every Monday for the last few weeks. Now might be the time to head to the beach during that time frame instead.
Add Meals to the Plan
Fitness isn't all it takes to get healthy. You need to eat nutritious foods as well. Adding meals to your family plan can help make a well-rounded health initiative. Allow every person to choose a meal they like to add to the menu. Encourage everyone to get in the kitchen and help make it together.
Set Family Goals
Ask each person in your family what their health goal is. Maybe one person wants to lose weight. Perhaps you want to simply get in shape. Another might say they want to be stronger and be able to lift a larger amount of weight. Incorporate everyone's goals into your family fitness plan and be sure all activities can help reach the desired achievements.
A family fitness plan can keep everyone on the same page when it comes to exercise. It gives you all a chance to bond and spend time together while also getting fit and healthy. Make sure you're switching things up and including everyone's favorite activities for a full range of options that work the whole body.
