Date Night Ideas Made Healthy
By Brandi Goodman
A dinner-and-a-movie date night doesn't have to be the norm. There are so many options out there that allow a couple to spend time together in a healthy way. When you're both looking to improve your well-being, a health-conscious option is key.
Incorporate Physical Activity
Adding physical activity into your date plans can ensure you each get your exercise in for the day. Go to the batting cages. Go bowling. Try a dance class. Volunteer somewhere that will have you on your feet and moving for a while. Get in the garden. There are endless possibilities.
Choose a Healthier Dinner and a Movie Combo
You can still opt for the dinner and a movie approach. Just be sure you're choosing a healthier restaurant or picking the wisest choice on the menu. Start with a salad, and go light on the dressing, for example. Get the grilled chicken instead of fried. Skip dessert. When it comes time for the movie, pick something funny. Laughter is great for mental well-being. You're bound to feel better after a comedy film than you are a scary movie or drama-filled option that leaves you teary-eyed.
Spend the Night Talking
Sometimes, we just need to talk to our partner. Communication can go a long way toward realizing what the other person needs to feel appreciated. If the two of you haven't spent much time talking lately, or you're feeling disconnected, just sit down and talk it out. It can be a big help. If there are worse problems and you two can't seem to get along, a talk therapist may work better in your circumstance.
Try a Relaxing Activity
Certain relaxing activities can work wonders for mental health. They calm your mind, ease anxieties, and help you feel more relaxed. Try an activity of this nature together. Get out a puzzle and work together to put it together. Find a large paper and paint something together. You could color, decorate the house for the next season, or find an alternative that you would both enjoy working on.
Your date night plans are already a step in the right direction. Your relationship will have a difficult time surviving if you're not spending time together on a routine basis. Add a healthy aspect to your dates and you'll both be all the better for it. It's a better way to bond.
