The Best Way to Do a Detox Diet
By Alexis Mills
If you think that doing an effective cleanse is only drinking juice for a week, it's time to realize that it doesn't need to be that extreme or difficult. Our bodies are already built to detox on their own and to get rid of the toxins we consume daily. So, as long as we make some minor changes, filter out the gunk, and drink enough water, then we are on the right track. See below for some simple tips to stick to when you are trying to help your body detox.
Eat Anti-Inflammatory Foods
Keeping your diet filled with fresh whole foods is the best way to keep your insides clean. To expel any unwanted buildup, stick to fiber-rich fruit, vegetables, beans, nuts, grains, lean protein, and probiotics. These will help liver and gut function be its best.
Cut Out the Fake Stuff
Stay away from processed, high sugar, red meat, and fried foods. The more that you cut out, the better results you will see in your health. Eating these foods create the kind of toxins and buildup you are trying to get rid of with a cleanse.
Take a Break from Alcohol
While doing a cleanse or a detox, cut out alcohol and give your body some hydrating water instead. Giving your body a break will give it time to recover more efficiently and to really let your kidneys and liver flush our toxins. During a cleanse, only keep water and tea as your drinks throughout the day to support your body.
Eat Hydrating Foods
Your body is made up of mostly water and needs to be continually hydrated throughout the day to function properly. But while trying to detox, eating foods that are filled with water will help your body stay hydrated and also get the vitamins and minerals it needs.
Minimize Snacking
When it comes to snacking, make sure you are only doing it when you are truly hungry and need a little pick-me-up. Also, a lot of the time you're feelings of hunger can trick you and it's actually because you are thirsty; before you reach for the snack, drink a glass of water first to see if that's actually what you needed. If you are still hungry after that, then eat a healthy snack in moderation and not in a mindless fashion.
Getting to your best health is about adopting small habits into your life. Doing realistic cleanses that are simple and stick to real food will be what your body really needs
