How to Cure Your Cold Naturally
By Alexis Mills
No one likes being sick. Getting a bad cold can make achieving day-to-day tasks seem nearly impossible. I personally use every trick and every tip that is provided below to stay healthy. I can't legally promise you this, but if you you stick to these tips, they will help stop a cold in its tracks. Sit back, rest up and follow the below tips to "cure" your cold.
Apple Cider Vinegar
I cannot emphasize enough the natural powers of apple cider vinegar. I discovered it during finals week in college when I felt a cold coming on and I had no time to be sick. I religiously drank a splash of apple cider vinegar in my water and was able to stay healthy! After that, apple cider vinegar has been my secret weapon with boosting my immune system and cutting my cold in half. The issue a lot of people have with it is its strong vinegar taste. For beginners, I recommend drinking in smaller doses -- think of it as a healthy shooter with ACV, water, and lemon juice; throw it back and enjoy the benefits to your immune system. Drink 3-4 times a day and notice how it helps your immune system fight the infection and get your energy back up.
Sinus Rinse
If you have a sinus infection or a stuffy nose, a sinus rinse helps tremendously. Just use a mix of hot water and a sinus rinse mix (salt and baking soda) or you can buy pre-made packets from the store for convenience. It drains the infection that is clogging your airways and makes it easier to breathe. Depending on how bad the cold is, I do this up to five times a day to make sure I am draining.
Hydrate
Hydration is key to getting over a cold as fast as possible. Always be drinking some sort of healthy beverage. For a sore throat or sinus infection, hot tea is great. I drink green, echinacea, and ginger teas when I am fighting a cold; all are great at supporting the immune system. Always have water next to you, it will help to get the infection out of you faster. For nutrients, drink natural juices such as freshly squeezed orange juice for a Vitamin C boost or a green juice to flush the toxins out of you.
Eat Healthy and Light
Treat yourself to foods that fuel your body. If you eat foods that are heavy, they will drain your energy even more and make your immune system work harder. Eat broth-based soups, fresh fruits, and vegetables. Avoid sugar, dairy, and gluten as much as possible. All make symptoms of a cold worse.
Essential Oil Diffuser
Blends of peppermint, tea tree, lemon, and eucalyptus have healing powers to help relieve cold symptoms.
Use these ideas to help protect yourself against the common cold. There may not be a cure yet, but there are ways to mitigate its onset.
