Making the Transition to a Healthier Lifestyle
By Stephen R. Farris
To live a more healthy, active lifestyle is something most of us strive to do. While difficult at times, it's achievable if you follow certain steps and set goals for yourself. If you're just starting out with an exercise program and/or changing your diet to include more healthier choices, it's always a good idea to visit with your primary care physician and/or your local chiropractor.
Your local chiropractor can help answer any questions you may have when it comes to exercise, nutrition, overall health, and mental well-being. They can also let you know if you're heathy enough to start a diet or exercise program.
So, let's say you've been cleared by your physician or chiropractor, here's a few tips to help you get started with your health and fitness goals.
Get Outside More
This should be easy for all of us. Get off the couch, out of the bed, away from the desk, and exit the vehicle. Start enjoying fresh air and the beauty of nature around you. Studies show that by getting outdoors more often can help relieve, anxiety, depression, and stress. Outdoor activities can also produce an essential health benefit by helping to lower your blood pressure.
The "Outside" of Your Body Needs Care Too
Just as the inside of your body needs to be healthy, so does the outside of your body. This means using more natural products around your house. When shopping, read the labels on household cleaning items, deodorants and shampoos, and air fresheners. Most regular household and personal items are filled with chemicals that could have adverse health effects on your body. If your favorite big box store doesn't carry natural household and personal items, do some research on the internet to see if there are specialty stores near you that do.
Eat More Produce
Eating more produce, such as raw vegetables and fresh fruits, can make your body feel healthier and give you a natural energy boost. You'll also benefit from all of those nutrients and antioxidants found in fresh fruits and raw vegetables. For example, berries are rich in vitamins and antioxidants and are a great addition to your morning smoothie.
To succeed in your nutritional and fitness goals, make healthy choices and do your research.
