5 Natural Remedies to Fight Psoriasis

By Brandi Goodman

Psoriasis Awareness Month in August aims to raise awareness for this skin condition. Though those with severe cases may require treatment from a doctor, there are also home  remedies that can help to treat symptoms and lessen the appearance. Try these five natural remedies to fight psoriasis and improve your skin promptly.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Those who suffer from an itchy scalp due to psoriasis may want to try apple cider vinegar. This type of vinegar can be applied directly to the scalp so it can start working faster. You may, however, want to dilute it with water so that you are less likely to experience a burning sensation.

Oats

Create an oat paste to help reduce some of the redness and itchiness associated with psoriasis. Start by placing whole oats in your blender so they get ground up into fine pieces. Mix in some hot water and you have a basic paste ready to use on your skin. You can even soak in the tub with the oats for an all-over effect.

Turmeric

Turmeric offers antioxidant properties that can work to rid the body of toxins. Some of these toxins may be stressing out the skin and causing a reaction such as psoriasis. A turmeric supplement taken orally may suffice, or you could try a paste to apply topically. Simmer some powder with water in a pan to form it.

Epsom Salt

An Epsom salt bath can work to detoxify the body. It should help to remove the scaliness associated with psoriasis and reduce itching. Just 15 minutes is all it should take to start feeling some relief. You may want to apply a moisturizer afterward to prevent dry skin.

Aloe Vera

Due to its anti-inflammatory properties, aloe vera is also a viable option for reducing the symptoms of psoriasis. You can apply aloe a few times a day as needed to help limit inflammation and swelling. Take the aloe straight from a plant or purchase some gel in-store.

Try these home remedies if you have psoriasis and need to reduce your symptoms. If you know someone with the skin condition, be sure to pass the information along. Any methods that can help to limit the appearance of the red, bumpy, itchy and dry patches that occur is worth trying, especially if it helps to build better confidence.
