5 Fitness Ideas for the Whole Family

Family Health and Fitness Day gets celebrated near the middle of June each year, with a repeat occurrence near the end of September. With some fitness ideas in mind, your whole family can participate. You may just find a new family favorite that can become an annual tradition -- or even something you all start doing together regularly for fun and fitness.

Play at the Park

Plenty of parks are available across the state. Find one minutes away or travel out farther to explore a new area. Don't just sit on the sidelines while your kids play, either. Get on the playground with them so you all can enjoy the exercise. Climb the monkey bars. Go down the slide. Swing. You can also use the greenspace to run, play catch, throw a Frisbee, or anything else you desire. 

Go Swimming

A day of swimming can be a fun exercise solution. The water will tire you all out quickly because of how much resistance it puts against the body. Don't worry, though, the activity has a very low impact on your joints. Don't forget the sunscreen, either. 

Take a Bike Ride

Biking is a great summer activity. Make sure the whole family knows how to ride and you can all take a bike ride together for a fun adventure. Even with little ones, you can take a ride once you add a bike seat to the back of yours or attach a trailer with a seat. 

Dance!

Stuck at home? That's OK! You can get up and dance for some easy family fun. Have a dance party in the living room with everyone's favorite tunes and enjoy the exercise. 

Go Bowling

Bowling may not seem like much exercise, but you do burn calories during the activity. Every time you walk up to the lane, get your ball ready, and roll it down the aisle, you're moving your body and improving your hand-eye coordination. It's an easy activity that everyone can do with various balls available to meet everyone's weight and sizing requirements. 

Give these family fitness ideas a try or come up with your own activities. Either way, the goal is to get out with your family and enjoy the fitness opportunities that feel the most fun for all of you. Fitness time as family time is a great solution no matter what you're doing.
