Desk Duty? Get Advice From the Chiropractor
By Brandi Goodman
Being stuck at the desk all day can be detrimental to your health. When you're put on desk duty, though, what can you do? You've got to get your work accomplished as your boss demands. With advice from the chiropractor, you can make it through your desk duty a lot easier -- and hopefully without discomfort.
Create an Ergonomic Workspace
If you're able to change things around at your desk, do so. Get an adjustable chair with lumbar support. Make sure your computer screen sits at eye level and you aren't having to raise or lower your neck to see the full screen. Get a soft palm rest for your keyboard or mouse pad as well so your wrists aren't sitting against a hard surface as you type. Pain in the wrists is quite common with frequent desk work as well.
Maintain Your Nutrition
Adequate nutrition plays a role in how your body feels and is able to function. Eat junk while you're at work all day and you're more likely to feel sluggish, find yourself slouching, and not focusing on proper posture. Keep your body fueled with healthy foods and you'll be more likely to maintain your posture and consider how you're sitting all day.
Stretch Often
Sitting in one position for long can quickly cause your joints to stiffen. You need to stretch often when you're stuck at a desk all day. You can perform a few simple stretches at your desk while still sitting that can help. Try these at least every 20 minutes. Otherwise, get up and move as often as allowed so you can fully stretch out and loosen up.
Keep Your Feet Flat and Shoulders Relaxed
How you're sitting can really hurt your body as well. Just because you have the proper workspace doesn't mean you're utilizing it as necessary. It's imperative that you keep your feet flat on the ground and do not sit too high with your legs hanging off the edge. Your shoulders should also be relaxed and not tensed up.
Chiropractic advice doesn't stop there. Desk duty can be a real pain -- in more ways than one. When you've been experiencing discomfort and need some relief, it's time to stop in at The Joint Chiropractic.
