Ease Neck & Shoulder Tension With Chiropractic Tips

By Brandi Goodman

Many people complain of neck and/or shoulder tension for one reason or another. For some, it's common to experience tension due to stress. For others, a pulled muscle may be the culprit after strenuous activity. Whatever the reason for your pain, keep some chiropractic tips in mind to help you ease the discomfort you're feeling and find relief.

Sleep With a Chiropractic Pillow

Any regular pillow won't suffice when your neck and shoulders are in serious pain. A chiropractic pillow that cradles your neck and works to keep you comfortable is best. You can purchase one from a local shop or look online for a wide assortment of options. If you can help it, don't just opt for the cheapest find. Look for a well-rated choice that can really help ease your discomfort while you rest.

Stretch and Work Out the Area

Every part of your body requires regular stretching to keep it feeling loose and light. If you fail to work out your neck and shoulders often, it leaves you even more susceptible to tightness and tension. Do some simple stretches that can help loosen up the joints and ease your discomfort. Roll your shoulders forward several times and then back. Move your neck from one side to the other, or roll it around in a clockwise circle, and then a counterclockwise motion.

Avoid Downward Glances

Looking down for a second isn't going to hurt you. Regular downward glances, however, especially if you remain in that position for a while, will definitely leave your neck and shoulders feeling sore. The weight of your head pulling at those muscles can quickly lead to problems. Many people experience this when they find themselves looking down at a phone or book for an extended time. Do your best to keep anything you're holding at eye level to avoid this dilemma.

Get Chiropractic Care

One of the best things you can do for yourself when you're feeling tension anywhere in your body is to get chiropractic care. A chiropractor can provide some tips on how best to seek relief at home and also perform an adjustment that can hopefully give you some immediate comfort.

Routine chiropractic care paired with these additional tips can help you get your shoulders and neck back in order. Don't just live with the pain or pop pills to mask it. Find agreeable solutions that work for your body to get to the root of the problem.
