The Chiropractic Guide You Need on Exercise

By Brandi Goodman

Starting a new exercise routine can be tough. You may be unsure of where to start and what to do that will work well for your body. With some chiropractic guidance on exercise, everyone can make better use of their time and get the results they're looking for. You just need to be sure to follow through.

Stretch Before, During, and After

Your body needs to stretch if it's going to thrive at this workout. You should stretch out well beforehand so your joints are fully prepared for what's to come. You should stretch or try low-impact moves throughout to help prevent injuries. You need to stretch after to help your body cool down and enhance your recovery process. Stretching is key when it comes to making the most of your exercise.

Wear Supportive Footwear

No matter what type of exercise you're doing, or where, you need footwear. A supportive pair of shoes is going to help keep you on your feet and provide stability. Even inside your home, you should be wearing a pair of athletic shoes rather than going barefoot. You'll have a better grip on the floor and can exercise safely. Never wear sandals, heels, or old shoes that don't bring you any comfort, or a pair too tight or too big that have you tripping over your feet.

Stop When You're Sore

Pushing yourself too hard isn't ideal, no matter what anyone tells you. It's normal to feel mild soreness when you exercise -- especially if you're not used to it. If something is really hurting, though, it's time to call it quits for the moment. Let your body rest and try again the next day. If that same pain persists, you may need to get checked out to find the true culprit.

Start With Light Exercise

Beginners should always start with light exercise. Don't immediately plunge into an advanced fitness class or attempt the hardest hike. You need to start light and work your way up so you don't hurt yourself.  Try going for a walk, following along with a beginner's workout video, or going for a swim.

Exercise is necessary for good health, yet so many people rarely engage in it. Keep these chiropractic tips in mind and start a new exercise routine that will be worth your while. If you need further guidance or experience discomfort after your workout, it may be wise to see a doctor at The Joint Chiropractic.
