Keep Chiropractic in Mind During the Holidays

By Brandi Goodman

The holiday season is full of activities that can leave the body feeling less than ideal. You may experience aches and tension after completing certain tasks. Shopping, decorating, wrapping, and more can leave you with a sore back, shoulders, and neck. Keep chiropractic in mind during the holidays and reduce your chances of experiencing discomfort.

Holiday Shopping

You might find yourself in stores and malls often during the holidays. There's decorations to find, gifts to buy, and Santa to see. Pain can set in easily during holiday shopping if you're not keeping some things in mind. First, be cautious of the shoes you wear. Flats, sandals, and clunky boots will all normally leave your feet, legs, and back feeling sore. A pair of comfortable tennis shoes is usually best. It's also important to stay hydrated and make sure you aren't carrying too many bags around. Bring some to your car and take a break between stores so the weight of the bags doesn't strain your body.

Holiday Decorating

Never reach too far or bend down to get into hard-to-reach places. You need to use caution during holiday decorating to avoid hurting your back. It's common to experience a strained back or even a serious fall during the holiday months. Watch what you're doing and get some help if you need to. It's also wise to wear a back brace if you're going to be lifting heavy items. Squat with your knees and keep your back straight to prevent hurting yourself.

Wrapping Presents

Too many people wait until the last minute to wrap all of their presents. This may have you hunched over for hours getting everything finished. Never sit hunched while gift-wrapping. It can leave you with a severe ache in your back, neck, or both. Instead, stand at a table or counter so you don't have to lean forward. You also want to be sure to keep your tape, scissors, and tags close by so you don't get a kink between your neck and shoulder reaching for them constantly.

For happier holidays that are mostly pain-free, seek chiropractic. Take this advice to heart when completing your holiday tasks and head into The Joint Chiropractic for care if you do experience any discomfort. It'll be easier to get through the busyness of the holidays with chiropractic on your side.
