Chiropractic Guidance for the Fall Season

By Brandi Goodman

The fall season is upon us. Although that's great to hear for many reasons -- lots of people love the spooky season and cuddling weather, after all -- it also brings with it some challenges. Autumn can bring some painful occurrences if you aren't following chiropractic guidance.

Stay Warm and Hydrated

Joint pain is often a problem on cold and rainy days. These days are frequent during the fall and of course winter. You need to stay warm -- putting on layers in the morning that you can take off later in the day if it warms up. You also need to stay hydrated. Your joints may ache if they're stiff and cold. You need to keep them well-lubricated with plenty of water in your system.

Choose Ergonomic Tools

The tools you use to handle your outdoor chores need to be ergonomic. This means picking rakes, shovels, and other equipment with bent handles that allow you to hold them at a better angle. They should also be lightweight, and fit according to your height. You don't want to be stuck hunched over a too-short rake. Your back will ache in no time if you work this way.

Stretch More Often

You may need some more frequent stretching if you find your joints aching. It's wise to stretch your body anyways before any sort of activity. Whether you plan on raking up some leaves or taking a walk through a pumpkin patch, a good stretch is in order first. It will help to keep your joints limber and prevent aches from setting in so easily.

Bring a Stadium Seat to the Bleachers

Lots of sports games take place in the fall. Whether you're attending a football game for your favorite team or watching your kids play, you're going to be stuck in hard seats for hours. Bring a stadium seat to the bleachers so you get more cushion and a backrest. Sit up straight in the seat and your back will be all the better for it. You can also bring a lawn chair to outdoor events so you don't have to sit on a hard bench at all.

The fall season brings lots of beauty and fun times. It can also bring pain if you aren't careful. Do what you can to keep your body feeling as well as possible throughout the season. Keep this chiropractic guidance in mind for a pain-free autumn that you can enjoy.
