How to Make the Most of Your Chiropractic Visit
By Brandi Goodman
Chiropractic won't solve all of your pain and problems like you may think. It can, however, ease some of your discomfort and provide relief for aches within your body. The way you participate and what you do afterwards can also play a role in how your body receives the care. With a few things in mind, you can make the most of your chiropractic visit so it's better able to help.
Hydrate
Before you see your chiropractor it's important to drink plenty of water. You want your body to be well hydrated so the joints are flexible and more willing to be manipulated as needed. Removing joint restrictions or subluxations can be done easier if the body is properly hydrated. A stiff body will be hard to influence.
Cast Your Fears Aside
Seeing a chiropractor for the first time can seem scary. The doctor may use techniques that end up causing a cracking noise as things get put back in place. This can sound terrifying. You might also be nervous that the adjustment could cause pain. Put your fears aside as best as you can and remain open to the process. If you're holding your breath or laying stiff, it can be more difficult for the chiropractor to do their job. Breathe through it and try to relax your body as best as you can so the adjustment can do its job.
Wear Appropriate Clothing
Both restrictive and bulky clothing can cause a problem. You want to wear the appropriate clothing to your chiropractor's office so nothing gets in the way. Restrictive clothing will not allow you to move as needed and bulky items can hinder the chiropractor's ability to remove joint restrictions as needed. You should wear a typical T-shirt and leggings or athletic pants.
Follow Further Instructions
Your doctor of chiropractic should offer further instructions for things to try at home. These exercises, stretches, and even nutritional tips can help to build your strength and improve your range of motion. You have to make sure you follow whatever further instructions your chiropractor provides so your body has the chance to improve. Failing to do so could leave you in the exact position you were before you received care.
