Stop Weekend Binging; it's Unhealthy
By Sara Butler
Weekends are pretty great. Most people have a couple of days off work and school to relax, go out, and get together with friends and family. Weekends are important to your mental health but they have one very big trap: bingeing. During the week, your days are pretty structured and that tends to be reflected in your meals, too. When the structure disappears, it makes it very easy to make unhealthy choices and derail all the effort you put into eating healthy during the week. Here are a few tips to help you stop the weekend food binge!
You’re Not At Home
When you’re out and about on the weekend you may opt to eat out more or to grab a coffee from the fancy coffee place. This can add extra calories to your day that can really pile up. To avoid this pitfall, always know where the healthy go-to places are in your area. Plus, most restaurants have online nutrition guides you can use to help find some healthier options.
You can also take snacks with you if you know you’re going to be out and about for the day. Pack a small cooler with some ice packs and snacks that will help you to curb your hunger without resorting to something unhealthy.
Drinking
Sometimes going out with friends means having a few cocktails. Before you know it, one cocktail turns into three and then you eat whatever you can get your hands on. It’s a real recipe for unhealthy disaster!
Go ahead and go out with your friends. If you want to enjoy a drink, then try to limit yourself to just one. After that, opt for seltzer water with a slice of lime. Also, try to hang out with friends who have the same health goals as you. You tend to mimic the habits of people you’re around most, so mimic good ones!
Thinking You Deserve a Treat
You’ve worked hard all week and that means it’s time to let loose! This can be a dangerous idea if you’re trying to focus on healthy habits. You can avoid this mindset by working in some small treats throughout the week to reward yourself. If you love chocolate, buy a bar of really nice dark chocolate and break off a chunk here or there throughout the week.
Your weekends can be full of fun without falling off the health wagon!
