Are You Hanging on to These Unhealthy Habits?
By Sara Butler
Your health is one of the most important things you have. Unfortunately, many people put their own health and wellness in the backseat, making other things in life a priority. It happens and if you do that, you're definitely not alone. But it's important to take the time to understand how the choices you make that may not seem as if they're a big deal can have a huge impact on your health and wellness.
You Snore
Do you keep your family up with your snores all night long? Well, it may be more than just something your family can make jokes about -- it could be a sign of a serious health condition.
Sleep apnea is a condition in which you stop breathing for periods of time before your body reacts and starts again. It's associated with cardiovascular disease and high blood pressure. That's why, if you snore, it's a good idea to talk to a healthcare professional about it to ensure there's not something more serious going on.
You Don't Get Enough Sleep
Some people pride themselves on just how little sleep they need to function, but it's not something anyone should boast over. That's because a lack of sufficient sleep nightly can lead to a number of issues with your health such as the increased risk of certain diseases, such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and some types of cancer.
The National Sleep Foundation reports the average adult needs about eight hours of sleep per night for their continued health. If you're not getting that, then it's time to rethink your sleeping situation.
You Eat a Lot of Fast Food
All fast food has one thing in common: high amounts of saturated fat. This can have an impact on your cholesterol level, putting you at a higher risk of a stroke or heart attack. The vegetable oil and red meat in fast food's burgers and fries are the culprits.
You shouldn't eat more than three servings of red meat during the course of the week and it's best to make fast food a treat rather than a staple in your diet. If you're craving a burger, then make one yourself out of grass-fed beef. If you want fries, then bake up some delicious potatoes on your own.
Your health and wellness are things you have direct influence on. That's why it's essential to be honest with yourself about the things you may be ignoring and get help for them today.
