4 Tips to Improve Your Workout
By Virginia Laird
There has never been a time that I have considered my workout habits to be so wonderful that I did not need improvement. This is the same sentiment many people have, which is what keeps them returning to the gym day after day. For people who may be looking to improve their workout routine, there are several things to try, but it does not necessarily mean spending more time at the gym. Research suggests that spending 30 to 40 minutes three to four times a week is sufficient. A few things to do to improve your workout include:
- Warm up
- Choose a workout you enjoy
- Don’t expect changes too soon
- Follow a program
Warm Up
Always, always, always warm up before a workout. Light stretching of the muscles that will be used to perform the exercise is enough. Before setting out on a long run, it is equally important to warm up the cardio with a brisk walk. People who skip out on the important task of warming up have an increased chance of getting injured.
Choose a Workout You Enjoy
It is impossible to complete a workout that is not enjoyable. For those who are currently forcing themselves to participate in a workout that is causing misery, stop it! There is little to gain when the workout makes a person have no desire to head to the gym. With a variety of classes available, everyone is sure to find something that brings the excitement.
Don’t Expect Changes Too Soon
Another thing too many people do is expect change too soon. While everyone would love to see the scale change or the measurements shrink after only a couple days, that is not reality. Change takes time.
Follow a Program
Finding a program to follow accomplishes a couple of things, including planning and balance. It takes the stress of planning what to do away from the participant and it provides a balanced workout. There are a variety of programs which can be found online. If a personal trainer is available at the gym, they can provide a program to follow as well.
If you are looking to improve your workout, applying a couple of these tips can help. Keep in mind, if the exercises you choose seem to be a chore, try something new. Good luck on your journey to a healthier you!
