Fall and Flu Are in the Air: Here's How to Stay Well

For many, fall is the best time of the year. With the cooler weather and changing colors of nature, it is no wonder that fall is a great time to get outdoors. As fall begins to make its way through your community, it too signifies the beginning of flu season. As you find yourself spending time at fall festivals, pumpkin patches, and other fall festivities where you are sure to come into contact with plenty of people and germs, some who are sure to be carrying the flu bug. Experts admit there are a few things you can do to help prevent your family from falling ill with the flu this season, including:
- Give yourself a bedtime
- Wash your hands every time you have the chance
- Keep your home clean
Give Yourself a Bedtime
Getting plenty of sleep is one of the best things you can do to ensure you are well enough to fight off illness. According to research, where there is a lack of sleep, the body can struggle to ward off infection and illness, making it vital that you get enough sleep. This same research suggests that adults should get at least six hours of uninterrupted sleep each night. Still, there are plenty who need much more than this to thrive. Giving yourself a bedtime, and sticking to it, can be beneficial in getting the sleep you need.
Wash Your Hands Every Time You Get a Chance
Keeping your hands clean is another way to help prevent illness. Many of the germs that attack your body travel on the hands. As you come into contact with a variety of people and surfaces, you are sure to also encounter a plethora of germs. Washing your hands as often as possible is a great way to help avoid illness from taking over the body. It is said that washing your hands fewer than seven times each day is not enough. Make sure you are washing your hands after visiting the restroom, before handling food, after coming in contact with others, and much more.
Keep Your Home Clean
Keeping your home clean can help prevent your family from falling ill this fall. This includes cleaning the many surfaces of your home. Simply wipe down the surfaces of the bathroom, kitchen and other places where many gather. Cleaning your home often can be the key to staying well.
