Be an Example of Healthy Living
By Virginia Laird
Healthy living is not always the easiest choice. However, it is always rewarding. Healthy living is far more than what food you choose to eat. It encompasses habits you have, hygiene, and a variety of other issues. While you may not always be aware of your choices or who is taking notice, your children and family are. Making healthy choices for yourself can help those you love consider following in your footsteps. A few choices to make when trying to lead by example include:
- Always choose water
- Make time to exercise
- Sleep should be a priority
Always Choose Water
Water is and has always been the healthiest beverage to drink. The body needs water to function properly. Where there is a lack of water consumption, the body can become more vulnerable to disease. Water can serve as a filler for those who desire to shed some weight. Research suggests drinking one glass of water prior to each meal as a means to help curb appetite. Not only will choosing water improve your health, setting the example of choosing water can help teach those you love to do the same.
Make Time to Exercise
Working out can be a drag, especially when there are a ton of other activities which you prefer to do. However, making sure to set a few minutes aside each day for exercise can help show your children that it is important. Health and wellness experts advise that as little as 30 minutes each day can be enough to make a difference in your health. Such exercise can include a brisk walk, bike ride, or even a trip to the gym. You determine how to spend your workout, just make sure you get one daily.
Sleep Should Always Be a Priority
Those who are successful make sleep a priority. While there may be those times when burning the candle at both ends may be necessary, it is probably not the norm. It is advised that the average adult get a minimum of at least six hours of sleep each night. Children need much more than this. As you begin to make sleep a priority for yourself, your children may do the same. Keep in mind that a change such as bedtime can prove to be a difficult one in the beginning. However, it is one worth the struggle.
You are now ready to begin making healthy choices which can serve as an example for those you love. Good luck!
