Manage Blood Pressure Med-Free
By Tom Herrin
This is a wonderful world of modern technology and things that may help to manage health. For many, the idea of taking medication for any number of issues is something about which they give no second thought. There are those who need some of these maintenance drugs, but there are many who could easily avoid them by adopting a healthier lifestyle. For example, those who may have high blood pressure often could make changes that will help them to manage it themselves. Making a decision to take a greater role in having a personal impact on blood pressure may find that it is not all that difficult to make those changes.
Change Your Diet
Most of us know that we eat some things we shouldn't. As long as it doesn't catch up with us, we keep on keeping on. What we take into our bodies is important. Everyone is different, and some are not as sensitive to certain things in foods as others. The good thing is that many restaurants post information about calories, fat content, etc. It is actually pretty easy to make some good choices, particularly if they do so ahead of time. A few simple changes may help create a diet that is more conducive to the personal needs of an individual.
Reduce Caffeine
Like so many other things, caffeine may affect some people but not others. Many drink caffeinated beverages throughout the day. For some, this may raise blood pressure and have some other unfavorable effects. A simple way to determine if it is a cause is to drink one of these beverages and check blood pressure shortly afterward. If the drink makes it increase, one may consider finding alternative drinks. There are lots of caffeine-free or low-caffeine drinks on the market, and there is really no difference in taste.
Self-Check Often
Blood pressure monitors for home use are pretty affordable and elementary to use. Some of them even store readings so that people may go back and refer to them. We have one in our home and use it regularly. I have found that anytime my numbers are not where I feel they should be, I can make some small adjustments and get the corrected in a day or so. If it can work for me, it likely can do the same for you. Get involved in your own care sooner rather than later.
