3 Essential Tips for Keeping Colds Away This Fall
By Genevieve Cunningham
We've all had colds. Stuffy noses, headaches, fever, a cough. Colds aren't usually serious, but they're definitely miserable. And this time of year -- the fall with its cooler winds -- is the perfect time for colds to show up in our lives. While you can't avoid all colds, there may be some things that can be done to prepare your body for the onslaught of germs and give yourself a chance of staying well. To get you through cold season with your health intact, take a look at these tips to try in your life today and all season long.
Each season brings its own set of challenges. It's our job to prepare our bodies properly based on those individual challenges. In the fall, it may be all about diet and supplements. Now is a good time to fill your diet with broths and immune boosting supplements. Eat plenty of chicken soup and add Vitamin C, echinacea, and other immune boosting vitamins to your morning routine. If you're not sure what to take, ask your doctor for advice. But rest assured that feeding your body properly is a great step in the right direction for keeping your body well.
If you want to avoid germs, you need to wash them away. This is the time of year when washing your hands, wiping down surfaces, and keeping germs away from your mouth is crucial. If you sneeze or cough, wash your hands. If you've touched a surface such as a doorknob or public counter, wash your hands. If you've been in public, make sure you wash your clothes and coats thoroughly and wipe down purse straps and bag handles. Keeping the germs away is half the battle, but good hygiene can help make it happen.
Get Plenty of Rest
The body must have rest. When we sleep, our bodies heal. Our bodies recuperate. Our bodies are strengthened. If you're not getting enough rest, you're setting yourself up for illness. Make sure that you're getting at least 8 hours per night, and get more if you're feeling exceptionally tired. This one step may be all it takes to get your health on track, so make it priority now.
You can't avoid all colds. It's impossible, as germs are everywhere! But with good planning, you can strengthen your body and make colds a much smaller part of your life. Use these tips to get started, and enjoy better health all season long.
