Skin Care Secrets That Really Work
By Genevieve Cunningham
The skin. Your first big impression. There’s nothing worse than feeling down about your skin. Breakouts, blemishes, scars … no one wants these kinds of imperfections to show up on a regular basis. But what can you really do about it? You’ve tried everything, right? Maybe not. If you’re having a little trouble with your skin, take a look at these three skin care secrets that may be worth giving a try.
You Might Need More Oil
A lot of the products that we use on the face are incredibly harsh. They strip the skin of all oils, including those natural oils that are supposed to be there. Once the oil has been stripped, your skin goes into panic mode. Since you need a little bit of oil for protection, your body goes into overdrive creating more. So what do you end up with? Oily skin. If you suspect this is happening to you, try using a gentle oil on your face to clean or moisturize it. Coconut oil, emu oil, or seabuckthorn oil are all great options for nourishing the skin.
You Definitely Need Sunscreen
Too many people think of sunscreen as an option … it’s not. Sunscreen should be a mandatory part of your skin care routine. Without it, the skin runs the risk of being burned or damaged. Even if you don’t end the day with a sunburn, the sun may have injured the skin in some way. Make sunscreen a part of your life in order to avoid premature wrinkles, age spots, and dark lines.
Exfoliation is Not an Everyday Activity
Some people go a bit overboard on the exfoliation. Is it good for the skin? Yes! But it can be hard on the skin if you vigorously exfoliate every single day. Instead, stick to no more than three times a week. When possible, take a gentle approach in order to scrape away the dirt and dead skin cells without doing more damage.
The skin is one of your most important assets. Though we can’t avoid all blemishes or problems with the skin, there are definite steps that we can take to protect it and make it fresh and clear for as long as possible. Use these tips and enjoy the skin you’re in for the rest of your life.
