What You Should Know About Eating Fish

By Genevieve Cunningham

If you’ve ever done any research into eating a healthy diet, you’ve probably noticed that fish is on almost every healthy menu. It’s a staple meat choice, and it brings various nutrients into your life. But for some people, fish is not the most pleasant choice. It's a bit unappealing, and truth be told, fish just isn't a favorite for everyone. So what's the deal? Do you really need fish in your diet? Or can you skip it in favor of other meats? If you're on the fence about keeping fish in your diet, take a look at what you should know about eating fish.

Not All Fish Tastes the Same

Some people don't keep fish in their diet because they just don't like it. They've tasted fish before, and they're none too eager to do it again anytime soon. But it's important to remember that not all fish tastes the same. In fact, different kinds of fish have distinctly different flavors and even textures. If you don't like one kind, don't be afraid to try something else. You may find that there's a fish out there that fits in your diet after all.

There are Thousands of Recipes

Along the same lines, it's also important to remember that there are a ton of different recipes available. Just because you don't like canned tuna doesn't mean you wouldn't like grilled salmon. Or maybe you would rather have fish tacos or fish on a salad or fish and fresh veggies. If you want fish to be a part of your menu, don't be afraid to get creative. If you're willing to try different recipes, chances are good that you’ll find something that suits your taste buds.

The Benefits Aren’t Over Hyped

Perhaps the most important thing to remember about fish is that the benefits are real. Fish is high in both protein and healthy fats. Eating this food is a great way to get various nutrients into your body with very few calories. A diet with plenty of fish can help you lose weight, increase muscle, eliminate joint pain, keep the brain healthy, and bring various other benefits. If you want to eat the healthiest diet possible, fish is a great food to keep on the menu.

If you really do hate fish, it's OK to leave it off the menu. But do your best to give it a fair shot. Fish brings so much nutritious goodness into your life, it's worth the effort! Keep these facts in mind, give it another chance, and you may find that fish is the perfect menu addition for the most well rounded healthy diet.
