Natural Ways to Manage Pain

By Paul Rothbart

Into each life, some rain must fall. If you change the word "rain" to "pain," the statement is still true. Let's face it, you can't get through life without hurting once in a while. If you do, you're not doing it right. Just because pain is expected doesn't mean you can't do anything about it. Pain relief has become an industry and there are scores of products out there designed to stop the hurt. Most of these products involved the use of drugs. Medications certainly have their place, but they can have side effects and be addictive. Treating pain naturally can be a much better way to go.

The Problems With Medication

There are many pain-killing medications that are effective in relieving pain. They can be helpful when used properly. It is, however, far too easy to abuse them. Over-the-counter drugs are easy to get and it's easy to ignore recommended dosages. Excessive amounts of ibuprofen or acetaminophen can be harmful to internal organs, especially the liver. Prescription drugs are harder to get but they can be addictive. The other major problem with drugs is that they temporarily mask the pain. They don't treat the cause of it, which is the only way to stop it for good.

Natural Pain Relief

There are natural pain relievers that may be ingested or rubbed on as a topical ointment that can be effective. They generally don't have side effects and are not addictive. They don't fix the problem either, but they can ease the pain naturally while the body heals itself. Rest is one of the best ways to heal and relieve pain. Placing ice on swollen areas and damp, warm compresses on parts of the body that hurt are also good natural ways to treat pain. The body knows what it's doing, you just have to help it along.

Chiropractic Care

When it comes to natural relief of pain, it's hard to beat chiropractic care. Chiropractors don't use drugs or invasive procedures. They perform examinations that locate the source of the pain. It may be a compressed disc, subluxation, or other problem in the spine. Sometimes the problem is in one of your joints. Wherever it turns out to be, a chiropractor can perform a series of adjustments that can correct the problem, ease the pain, and keep it away. A completely natural treatment that gets to the cause of your pain.

You will always feel some pain, at least occasionally. It's easy to reach for that bottle of meds but that may not be your best option. Consider a visit to The Joint Chiropractic. You don't need an appointment. Find out how a chiropractor can fix the problems that cause your pain and do it completely naturally.
