Mental Wellness for the New Year

Prioritizing our mental health and wellness has never been as important as it has this past year. With the state of the world, the restrictions and guidelines, the impact on finances, and the change in routines, more people than ever before have had to deal with stress, anxiety, and a sense of hopelessness. But the new year has arrived. And although that doesn't guarantee anything, it does give you a fresh starting point to recharge and rejuvenate both your mind and body.

Mental Wellness Month

January is Mental Wellness Month and there is no better perfect time than now to start focusing on the things that improve your mental health. So, what do you say? Are you ready to commit to a year filled with positivity and great health? Here are some suggestions on how you can start this year on the right foot.

  • Create a schedule - Life is stressful enough as it is, so don't add any more by becoming overwhelmed with your daily tasks, responsibilities, and obligations. Take an extra 10 minutes in your morning to create a schedule for the day. It's the best way to stay on top of everything that needs to be accomplished.
  • Stop wearing pajamas - Wake up, make some breakfast, enjoy a great cup of coffee, and get out of your pajamas if you are still working from home. Getting dressed in your actual street clothes will help you feel better and may even motivate you to tackle the day with more energy!
  • Spend time alone - Spending time to do the things you enjoy is vital for good mental health, so go ahead and engage in a favorite hobby, take a walk around the neighborhood, read before bed, or spend hours in your garden. It is definitely time well spent!
  • Spend time with others - Whether you spend some quality time with your family or you head out of the house to see some friends, keeping your connections with others is critical during times like these. Pull out the board games or cook together at home, and ask a friend or two to meet you for a walk or a quick cup of coffee. Spending time with others really does make a difference in your days!

January is the perfect time to reevaluate your habits and lifestyle. By doing so, you can start the new year with a different attitude and improved mental health. And after what last year was like, there is no better gift to give yourself!
