Get in Those Servings!
By Donna Stark
Did you have an apple at lunch or a salad at dinner last night? If so, that's great! You are on the right track! But one piece of fruit or one small side salad a day isn't near enough fruits and vegetables for your daily intake. In fact, you probably need to add a lot more. Did you know you should be consuming at least seven servings of fruits and vegetables every day? If you aren't, don't worry! It's never too late to get on the fruit and vegetable train, and with the following suggestions from your local chiropractors at The Joint Chiropractic, it couldn't be any easier.
Visit Your Local Market
Want the best of the best? There is no better way to enjoy what you love, experiment with something new, and add more nutrition to your diet than to head on over to your local farmers market! And don't be shy! Ask about the produce on the shelves and be open to learning new things. Who knows? You may even find some new items to try!
Make Smoothies
Smoothies are one of the easiest ways to increase the number of fruits and vegetables you consume on a daily basis. Simply fill the blender with your favorite ingredients, such as sliced berries, mangoes, peaches, pineapple, spinach, kale, avocado, and celery and mix them up. But don't just save your smoothies for breakfast! Get a double dose of that natural goodness by having an afternoon smoothie too! Just be sure to keep an eye on your sugar consumption!
Eat Healthier Snacks
Sure, those potato chips and double-fudge brownies are hard to pass up, but a handful of carrot sticks or a banana will do more good for your body. If you usually eat a couple of snacks a day, that's two to three more servings of fruit and vegetables you don't have to worry about adding, so keep your hands out of the chip bag and reach for some healthier options instead!
Keep Track
When your busy life takes over and you're running around doing a million things at once, it can be difficult to remember what you ate during the day, so try to slow down and keep track of your meals. Whether you write it all down in a journal or you enter the information into an app, doing so will make it easier for you to count your servings.
The Right Number of Servings
Consuming the recommended number of fruits and vegetables each day will help increase your nutritional intake and improve your overall well-being, so don't delay. It's time to get on the fruit and vegetable train! Destination? Why, great health, of course!
