Better Health, No Pole Needed

By Tom Herrin

Trying to eat healthier can sometimes be a bit of a challenge, but it is certainly something that is within reach for most people.  It is true that rarely does everyone like everything.  Some foods simply don't appeal to some people.  There are times when it takes some effort to find ways to enjoy certain foods.  One of those that are really good for health but not always on the list of likes is fish.  Since it is available to be purchased in all forms, it no longer required for people to go out and catch their own.  There is no unpleasant cleaning involved.  It may be bought fresh, frozen, canned, or all sorts of other ways.  The main thing is that it is known to help provide some great benefits to health.

It May Help Increase Good Brain Material

The brain obviously works differently from anything else.  The fact that it has memory, processes information, and helps with emotions is amazing.  All of these things depend on grey matter.  When people begin to lose it, as is the case in some kinds of problems such as Alzheimer's, they suffer losses in many brain functions.  According to studies, people who eat fish every week have shown progress in their grey matter.  They have more in some of the centers of their brains and don't show the typical signs associated with age.

It May Help Prevent Depression

Among the issues that many people face, depression is one that is widespread.  Eating fish seems to have some effect on this.  Some studies have indicated that people who eat fish regularly have less depression.  It has also been indicated that it may help medication for depression be more effective.  There is good reason to believe that there is a connection with the omega-3 fatty acids found in fish.

It Really Is Good

The trick to eating fish is to know just what you like.  Many people don't care for some of the stronger tasting fish, but there are some that are not so potent.  There are also ways to prepare it that makes it taste entirely different.  Our family enjoys eating some of it broiled or baked, but we also like eating something such as salmon right out of a can with some whipped dressing and crackers.  Lots of people enjoy tuna in a casserole or some kind of a mix to put in a sandwich.  For those of us who remember the television show, Ward Cleaver likes it well enough to smooth over problems such as Beaver drilling holes in the side of the garage.  Try adding a little more fish to your diet for better health.  It may put you in a better mood as well.
