More Fun, More Exercise
By Tom Herrin
Exercise is a critical part of supporting the best health possible. We all know we need it on a regular basis, but a lot of us fail to get into a routine in which we do what we should. Part of the reason may be due to the fact that we find most of the exercise programs we are familiar with to be a little too boring. Going through the same routine day after day can simply discourage some of us. On the other hand, variety may be the real spark for others of us. Finding ways to exercise through different kinds of activities may help to keep us motivated. There is nothing wrong with creativity.
Try Hiking
We may have the idea that hiking is something for those who belong to some kind of organization for kids. If this is what you think, you haven't been to a local hiking trail. They can be lots of fun. It is important to be prepared and know how far you will hike. Don't go too far without an adequate amount of water. You should begin with short distances and work up. The end result may be a lot of good exercise as you may be traveling considerable distances up and down hills. Many people also carry backpacks that add to the load. It can be great exercise.
Bike Riding Is Still a Good Option
For anyone who has trouble with knees or feet, riding a bicycle is a good alternative to doing something with higher impact. Riding a bike can be good for many kinds of rehab. I love riding a bicycle and do so whenever I have the opportunity. You can build endurance and improve some joints. It is generally good for the knees, and with multi-speed bikes, you can adjust the amount of tension needed so that it works for you.
Trampolines Can Give a Light Workout
If you have never been on a trampoline, you may not be aware of how much work it can be. While it looks like fun, and can be, it can also work a few muscles. Small trampolines are available that are fairly portable and easy to use and store. The main thing you are looking for is activity that can get you up and get you going. Be a little creative and do something different.
