3 Ways to Ease an Upset Stomach

By Genevieve Cunningham

There's almost nothing worse than walking around with a sick stomach. That queasy, tummy rumbling feeling can fill you with dread. Most of the time, you simply have to wait it out. But on the brighter side, there may be some things that you can do at home to help ease that yucky feeling. If you need some good and effective at-home remedies for a sick stomach, take a look at these methods to keep in your home every day.

Peppermint Tea

Peppermint tea is a great thing to keep in your home. It tastes and smells wonderful, and it’s great for easing both a sore throat and an upset stomach. Just heat up some water, let the tea bag steep for a few minutes, and then add enough sweetness to suit your liking. Just make sure that you sip and don’t gulp. Gulping anything on an upset stomach can exacerbate the problem, while sipping slowly but steadily eases the upset and leaves your stomach feeling more at ease.

Ginger

Ginger has long been known to be soothing to an upset stomach. You can eat a little ginger on your food, or you can drink a ginger tea or a concoction with a bit of ginger in it. And of course, everyone knows that ginger ale is a good option for easing stomach troubles. Keep a little ginger, of some form, in your home. When someone complains of a sick tummy, you’ll have just what you need to ease the pain.

Yogurt

While most dairy products are a big no when your stomach is upset, yogurt is the exception. Yogurt is full of healthy probiotics. What are these? They are the healthy bacteria that is found in the digestive tract. This bacteria needs to be present in order to keep the bad bacteria balanced in your gut. If you have an upset stomach, chances are good that this good bacteria could help. Eat a little yogurt, preferably not stocked with sugar or artificial sweeteners, and give it a little time before filling up on anything heavier.

While curing a sick stomach isn't always possible and certainly isn't easy, finding just a little relief might be worth the effort. Use these simple tips to put an end, or at least a pause, to your queasiness. With a little relief at home, you can wait out the illness and be back on your feet in no time at all.
