Healthy Foods for Your Summer Picnic
By Genevieve Cunningham
There are a ton of fun things to do when the weather is nice. Even if you’re in a warm location, there’s something about summer that makes you want to get outdoors and get active. Swimming and days at the park and pick-up games with friends. These things keep summer fun and interesting. And even if you don’t want to be incredibly active, there are still other ways to enjoy the great outdoors. Like a picnic! Of course, you still want your non-active activity to be healthy. So how do you keep a picnic healthy? Choose the right foods, of course! If you need some healthy foods to add to your picnic menu, take a look at these foods to try today.
Apples
Apples make a good food for a picnic because they’re so easy. All you have to do is wash them and throw in your basket. Apples are full of healthy vitamins, water, and fiber. They’ll help you feel full, encourage digestion, and can even help keep your teeth clean. Pack a few apples in your picnic basket, and you’re halfway to healthy.
Grapes
Grapes are another easy food that you simply wash and throw in the basket. Grapes are fun for a picnic, as they seem like the perfect food to eat outdoors. But they’re also a good source of healthy fat. Though they contain plenty of vitamins, they’re considered a fatty fruit, but luckily it’s the kind of fat that you actually need in your diet. Toss in some grapes, and you’ll have a snack to enjoy at any time.
Almonds
For a blast of protein, just take along a small bag of almonds. Almonds are an excellent source of protein, are relatively low calorie (for nuts), and can add just enough crunch to your meal. Almonds can be eaten raw, roasted, or even covered in cinnamon. Choose your favorite and take them along for the perfect addition to your outdoor meal.
Picnics are a lot of fun and are the perfect summer activity for any family. To keep your picnic healthy, just take these foods and other nutrient dense options. Take a walk, grab some snacks, play some games, and bask in the sun. A healthy picnic is a great way to spend quality time with loved ones, boost your health, and have some fun. So pack your basket, and get moving.
