3 Health Tips You Can Learn From Your Kids

By Genevieve Cunningham

Kids. Just the word alone probably brings up a lot of emotions for a lot of people. The thought of your kids probably fills you with undying love and endless exhaustion all at once. Kids are amazing and tough. It takes a lot of patience and guidance to turn these tiny humans into good adults. But as much chaos and trouble that kids bring into the picture, they can actually teach us so many things. Love, devotion, forgiveness.

But kids can also teach us a thing or two about health! If you're open-minded and ready to improve your health, take a look at these three lessons that our kids can teach us about staying well.

You Need Time to Play

Kids instinctively know that play time is crucial. For kids, play time is a chance to let off steam and also to learn. For adults, play time can do the same thing. We often forget about making time for play. Instead, we slave away for the almighty dollar. But if you don't make time for play, you're more likely to suffer from excess stress and major disease. In this instance, take the advice of your children, make some time for yourself, and have some fun.

Lack of Sleep Can Make You Grumpy

If you've ever been around a tired child, then you can absolutely relate to the grumpy, irritable mood that comes with it. Tired kids make miserable kids, and parents! But the same is true for adults. When we don't get enough rest, we often struggle to stay cheerful. We're more likely to lose our temper, forget our tasks, and feel negative about life. If you want to be in a good mood regularly, get more sleep starting now.

Junk Food Should Be Eaten Sparingly

Kids and sugar. It's a natural and dangerous combination. But if you pay attention to the way your kids act and feel after consuming a lot of junk food, you can probably learn a lot. Junk food makes us go through a series of emotions. You may experience a quick euphoria followed by a crash. You may feel sluggish or irritable. Junk food has the same effect on all people -- albeit with different severity. If you want to feel good in your own skin, skip the junk food more often than not.

Kids are great teachers. If we let them, they can teach us so much about life. But as it turns out, they can teach us a lot about health, too! Take these kid-friendly tips to heart, and you may be able to boost your health and feel better than ever in no time at all.
