A Good Walk May Do More for Less

Most people stay pretty busy  If this is not the case, they tend to have time on their hands that they are not able to use.  It seems that those who are busy are the ones who really get the most done. It is not because they have so much time available but that they may, in fact, be better at time management.  Knowing how to prioritize activities and events can make or break many people. Finding ways to use what time is available is really critical. Those who are most successful at managing their time are the ones who get things done.  Most of these people also know how to get a sufficient amount of exercise to meet their needs. One of those ways to maximize time is to walk up hills.

It Can Strengthen the Heart

A good workout must challenge the body to work at a higher level.  When this happens, it is able to produce more effort or work. Walking up hills can push people to a greater level of work.  A good steady pace is a great way to work the heart and allow it to function at the highest possible level. This can improve efficiency by moving more blood with less effort.

It Can Work Muscles

Many muscles really do not get much workout most of the time.  When people walk up hills, they are able to use those muscles to a greater extent.  Lifting the body as they walk can work multiple muscles at the same time. This may improve muscle tone as it challenges coordination at the same time.  In walking on flat ground, muscles only have to move people forward. This leaves much less work done in the process.

It Can Mean a Shorter Workout

Most of us like a chance to save time.  When we walk up hills, we can do more with less time and effort.  I have always tried to get in some kind of workout even when I got in late.  It was often difficult to spend the amount of time I really needed. Walking up hills can ramp up the work while using much less time.  The workout may reasonably be cut down by quite a bit. With walking up hills, it is okay to walk up and down them and not create a long route.  As a coach, we often had kids walk down hills to lengthen their stride. It may be a productive workout in many ways.
