Mobility Is Not a Requirement for Building Health
By Tom Herrin
There are those who are not into a lot of moving around even though they have an interest in trying to make an improvement in their health. For most people, it doesn’t seem to add up. They think in terms of generating movement as a big part of building their bodies. The fact is that, while moving is great, it is not always necessary for people to build their bodies and improve their health. Isometrics got a lot of attention a few years ago and then seemed to wane. In recent years, they have made a little bit of a comeback, and people have learned how to use them more efficiently.
They Can Be Good for Rehabilitation
Injuries are common, especially as people get older. When muscles or other soft tissues are involved, recovery becomes a big deal. Some people struggle with lingering injuries. Isometrics are considered to be a good way to work muscles that have been damaged. They can provide the work the muscles need without having a negative effect on the joints. Even though many people feel that injured muscles should not be worked, it is actually helpful to them in the healing process if done correctly.
They Can Save Time and Space
If people have limited space, they can still get a pretty good workout by doing isometrics. The same may be said about time. Add to that the fact that there is no equipment needed for doing any isometrics. All of this makes it a highly efficient means of working the muscles and increasing strength. When muscle contractions are held for a longer period of time, the muscle mass will grow and they will become stronger.
They Can Increase Flexibility
For those who want to improve their flexibility, isometrics are an effective way of doing so. Stretching is a must in most exercises. When you do isometric exercises, your body will have an opportunity to use gravity in combination with your body’s ability to resist. I have used isometrics with pretty good success. They are a great way to get some things done with what may seem like very little effort. If you are looking for that something that is a little different to do to get more done for improving health, consider looking at isometrics. They may be productive.
