How Is the Temperature in Your Neck of the Woods?

By Tom Herrin

At one time, there was very little that anyone could control in their immediate surroundings.  As advancements have been made in the last half century, it seems as if it is possible to control just about anything.  While controlling temperature has been possible for quite a few years now, modern technology has made it much easier.  Thermostats may be set to come on and go off at various times and days.  Achieving an ideal temperature is more easily possible as long as a person is aware of just what that temperature is.  Some have narrowed it to somewhere between 60 and 80 degrees.  Some have been more specific and noted it as 72 degrees.

A Good Sleeping Temp May Matter

Many people find sleeping difficult enough without considering issues with temperature.  Some studies have been conducted on this matter, and one has determined that the best range is 65-72 degrees with the optimal temp being 68.  This may not go along with all energy-saving suggestions, but it may be better for comfort.

How About a Temperature for Weight Control?

There are all kinds of thoughts about what may be the best temperature for losing weight.  It has been observed that when people shiver, they may increase their rate as much as five times.  That may be pretty significant.  It may be worth the effort for those who dare to brave the cold.  Otherwise the prime temperature range for losing weight is thought by some to be 64 to 67 degrees.  It has pretty much always been believed that exercising in cooler temperatures is preferred.

Temperature Can Make a Difference

Since I am one of those who is considered "hot natured," temperature has always had an impact on me.  I know that those of us who tend to be warm often attribute it to higher levels of iron, but that is not the answer to every question.  I make it a point to drop my thermostat just before I go to bed each night.  I find that I am able to sleep much better.  I also try to attempt to lose weight only when the temps are neither hot nor cold.  I avoid doing so in the winter or summer.  I have found, first-hand, that it is easier to manage weight at these times.  For me, temperatures have a pretty big influence on my overall health.
