Workouts for the Fitness Newbie
By Donna Stark
There is nothing better to cheer about than the decision to incorporate exercise into your daily routine. But being a newbie to the world of fitness can feel overwhelming, and although we all need to start somewhere, it would be nice to know where exactly to start, right? Well, there is no need for you to stand there wondering what to do! Here are some great beginner exercises that in addition to getting you fitter and healthier, will also get you started with fitness as safely as possible. Take a look.
Walking
Just because you have been walking your entire life doesn't mean you know how to use the correct posture and technique for when you walk to exercise. You should keep your eyes up, pull your shoulders back, maintain a natural pelvis position, and step lightly. Make sure to walk at a moderate pace for at least 30 minutes a day if you want to improve your overall health and reach the goals you desire.
Biking
Even though biking can be more strenuous and intense than walking, it is still a great beginner workout to participate in. You can bike around your neighborhood, to and from work, or on designated trails in the community. Biking is a great option because you get to choose where you want to head, which means you can decide on the level of difficulty. No matter how intense the workout is though, aim for at least 30 minutes of riding each time.
Beginner Yoga
There are plenty of online videos to get started with if you are interested in yoga. Yoga is a perfect choice if you are looking to increase flexibility, ease body tension, and strengthen your core. But the best part about this type of exercise is that you can practice it anywhere! All you need is a mat to work on and some good breathing techniques.
Beginner Strength Training
I know, this sounds scary, but don't worry! Strength training isn't something to be afraid of. It also doesn't need to be overly complicated either. The key idea behind strength training is that you want to push your muscles beyond their comfort ... but you still need to know your physical limits! So start slowly, increase the weight gradually, and don't lift anything that you can't do safely.
The Beginning Steps to a New You!
Whether you like new beginnings or not, there is only one way to go after that first step, and with exercise, that way is in the direction of good health and wellness! So, get moving and start achieving all the goals you have made for yourself!
