Ways to Reshape Life and Live Better
By Sandy Schroeder
As we head into the new year, you may be looking for ways to make life better. I know I am. It feels like it is time to create a simpler happier existence that values what we have and makes the most of it. We may still face an up and down world, but we might feel more grounded and content with a few adjustments. Consider these.
Always make room for laughter - My family was full of individuals, but differences were easily forgotten when someone made a funny observation. One giggle led to another and issues were easily forgotten.
Let go of the past - Most of us have made mistakes that we regret, but clinging to them does not change a thing. When one comes up, give it a few minutes and then let it go. Move on to a new wish or a new idea that fit with the things that count right now.
Understand that you are enough - It's easy to spot faults. Most of us can recite our own, but what about the rest of the things that make us who we are. Give yourself credit and acknowledge your role as a worker, parent, spouse, daughter or son. There are a lot of people who depend on you to be there and are glad you are. Take a bow.
Be open to change - Little things actually can make a difference. Be aware of what you and your family need and watch for ways to make life better. Time spent talking, reading and thinking can open new doors, establish new habits, and create new patterns that matter. Art, crafts, music, and stories can set new moods and invite change.
Avoid news overloads - Keep up with the news but don't let it dominate. Give it your attention and discuss it with your children if they need explanations, but then move on. Get outside, plan dinners, invite friends over. Keep the focus on your life and stay centered on what really matters. That's the news that really counts.
Look to the future - Most of us have learned a lot about ourselves in the past year or two. Use that awareness to create opportunities, invite change, build a better life for you and your family.
