Why Your Skin Care Routine Needs Consistency

By Brandi Goodman

November is National Healthy Skin Month. It's important that a month that's well (and late) into the year is responsible for bringing awareness to the benefits of healthy skin. Many people skip their skincare routine once the holiday months arrive because they have late nights, frequent errands to run, and too many tasks to accomplish. Keeping a consistent skincare routine is vital to your skin's health.

The Harsh Effects of Winter

The cold and dry weather that comes about in the winter can have harsh effects on the skin. If you continue to follow your skincare routine, you're more likely to keep these typical effects from impacting you. You want your skin to remain supple, smooth, and hydrated. A moisturizer should be on your to-use list, at the very least, each day.

Preventing Sun Damage

Skincare doesn't only mean using products such as cleansers and moisturizers. Sunscreen should also be part of your routine. Consistently using sunscreen can prevent sun damage. Too many people use it during the summer months but stop for the winter. This shouldn't be the norm. You need to continue using sunscreen even when it's cold out. The temperature has nothing to do with it. It's the sun's rays that cause the damage. Sunny days are possible any time of year. It's best to protect your skin every time you find yourself outdoors.

Morning vs. Nighttime Routines

You shouldn't only complete your skincare routine at one time of day. You need at least two times to get it right. A morning routine and a nighttime routine should both be utilized. The morning is about protection and prevention. Put on things that will protect your skin from anything harmful it could come in contact with throughout the day. Prevent damage from occurring. Your nighttime routine requires you to fully cleanse your skin of anything it came in contact with during the day. You want to remove dirt, makeup and other products used so you can go to sleep with a fully refreshed face.

National Healthy Skin Month encourages you to take care of your skin and keep it healthy. Do it throughout November and all other months of the year so you can keep your skin in the best condition possible. It's yet another thing that can work to keep you healthy overall.
